So this semester has been amazing! My first few clinical rotations were in the ER where I got to learn so much. I tried to take time to interact with all the different health care workers to get an idea of the different roles in the operating room. Some of the different roles include surgeon, assisting surgeon, scrub tech (scrubs in...hands sterile instruments to the surgeon), anesthesiologist, circulating nurse. I had so many cool experiences but my favorite is definitely when I watched a surgery at The Huntsman Cancer Center. The surgeon was a world renown surgeon and his team was really friendly. While I was helping them set up the scrub tech asked me if I wanted to scrub in (scrubbing in=gowning, gloving, being sterile, etc). This opportunity is pretty rare for a random nursing student so of course I said yes! It was so cool! The surgeon had me help hold tools and keep the incision site open (they were removing a tumor). He even said I did a good job holding the tool, "I have a good grip"...haha, as much as I loved watching surgery and talking with the doctors I really dont think I want to be an OR nurse, but its nice to explore my options!
Learning how to "scrub in", this is what I looked like in surgery...just to give you an idea

This is awesome. YOU are awesome "nurse ren"!
So I looked through the last picture for while trying to find you tell I realized that you weren't there... Talking about all those 'tools' still make my tummy turn a little. I'm so glad that the patience is always asleep in surgery! I love the updates by the way!
